'Pause'는 알파벳 대문자 한 벌을 자르고 재조합해 다시 다른 한 벌로 만드는 과정에서 형태와 문자의 경계를 탐구한 작업이다. 이 과정에서 사용된 ‘자르기’와 ‘조합’은 문자로 간주될 수 있는 형태의 경계를 가늠해보는 타이포그래피적 실험이자 공예적 행위이다. 새롭게 만들어진 이 글자들은 익숙한 듯 익숙하지 않으며, 이 글자들을 읽으려고 시도할 때 공백 혹은 멈춤이 발생한다.

‘Pause’ is a work that explores the boundaries between forms and letters by cutting and reconstructing a set of upper case alphabets into another. The acts of ‘cropping’ and ‘combining’ used in this process are among the practices of our various typographic experiments ; we think that such craft-like activities can make us play with the boundaries of forms that can be regarded as letters. These newly created letters are familiar yet again unfamiliar to readers; therefore the readers take a moment of being “blank” and then “pause” when reading these letters.
강주성 & 이현송
이현송은 예술학과 시각디자인을 공부했고, 졸업 후 안그라픽스에서 책 디자이너로 일했다. 현재 영국에서 그래픽 디자인을 공부하고 있다. 강주성은 공업디자인과를 졸업한 후 삼성전자에서 그래픽 디자이너로 일했고, 현재 핀란드에서 그래픽 디자인 석사 과정에 있다.
Joosung Kang & Hyunsong Lee
Joosung Kang studied Industrial Design and worked as a graphic designer at Samsung Electronics. Currently, Kang is studying Graphic Design in Finland. Hyunsong Lee studied Art Studies and Visual Communication. After working as a book designer at Ahn Graphics, Lee is now currently studying Graphic Design in the UK.
