오후를 위한 글자

작은 일인용 돗자리 혹은 방석 그 중간 즈음. 이 프로젝트는 오후의 느긋한 시간 동안 사람들이 작은 휴식을 취할 수 있기를 바라는 마음에서 시작되었다. 특히 이번 두 번째 버전은 서울에서 아주 더운 여름을 보내며 만들어졌고, 때문에 점점 더워지는 계절을 견딜 방법을 모색해야겠다는 생각을 하게 됐다. 반짝이는 물과 햇빛을 충분히 감상하는 일, 푸른 잔디와 잘 익은 과일을 따는 일 등을 상상하며 작업에 매진했다. 그리고 그 이상의 아름답고 사치스런 시간을 이 위에서 보낼 수 있기를 바란다. 원단 위에 실크로 인쇄된 선들은 세로 획이 제거된 알파벳이다. 의미 없이 나열된 (마치 그들 스스로 휴가를 떠나온 것처럼 보이는) 선들은 휴식을 위한 일련의 노동—매트를 반복해 접고 펼 때 쌓이는 흔적과 결합해 하나의 글자로 의미를 획득한다.
Afternoon Type 2

Small mat for one person: a picnic mat or sitting mat or something in-between The second version of this project began in a very hot & humid summer day in Seoul, hoping that people could take a little break and relax sometime in the afternoon. As the weather becomes increasingly brutal hot in Seoul, I had to find a way to endure the summer days by imagining myself surrounded by the glittering water with sunlight and picking ripe fruits on green grass. The lines silkscreened on the fabric represent the alphabet with no vertical strokes. Placed without any specific order or meaning, these lines (they seems as if they’ve been on a vacation for themselves) are, in fact, the results of different labors. When repeatedly folded and unfolded, the piled up image on the mat gets to acquire a meaning in one letter.
